Spraint Analysis

Otter spraints are deposited in many different shapes and forms and the photographs below are typical examples of what you might find when searching for spraints.  The only sure way of identifying a spraint is by smell.  The aroma given of by a spraint has been described as being fishy, new mown hay or even lavender.  Once smelt you generally never forget it and it is the best way of convincing yourself that it was deposited by an otter.  Spraints can suggest many things such as sex, the otters environment, their feeding  habits, and their habits in general.
